Recovering...

Welcome to Day 1 of recovery...
...to Ginger Ale, Percocets, and Jelly Toast...
...to a VERY sore belly with a VERY fashionable bandage...
...to a woosy head and aching shoulders...

In spite of having seen better days, I'm very thankful that the surgery went as well as it did. My husband was with me each step of the way, and my old youth pastor from high school (Joe Moore) came to pray with me before I went into the OR. They both kept me grounded and laughing before heading in. I had some great nurses who helped me relax and joked with me each step of the way. The last traces of rememberance I have is a male nurse coming in and telling me that what he was pumping into my IV was going to be the equivalent of 3 straight up, dry martinis... immediately my eyes glazed over and I got super tipsy feeling! Then the very last thing I remember was the nurses talking about how they were surprised to be operating on a young, thin patient as the average "victim" of gall bladder surgery is a 400lb person past the age of 40. Not sure if they were trying to compliment me or not... but I comtemplated that thought all the way to sleep... Then I woke up and someone told me I was in recovery. I immediately asked for my husband, who came rushing to my side with a cheery gift bag from the hospital gift shop. A fluffy penguin, a bag of gummy Lifesavers and a sweet love note!!

I was in and out of sleep for a couple of hours in the recovery room. I managed to stomach a popsicle and then was ready to try to pee. The nurse promised that if I could make it to the bathroom and go, then I could head home! I couldn't wait to get home and see my little bug! Peyton spent the day with my mom and I was so anxious to kiss her lovely face!

Now, at home, I'm definitely feeling it, but I'm being VERY well taken care of :) Peyton is playing on the floor nearby with Bryan. It's hard for me to not be able to pick up Peyton and care for her the way I'd like to, but at least I can watch her play! She's pretty anxious about me and keeps looking over at me and crying. I think she's really confused and frustrated as to why I'm not picking her up and nursing her. I can't wait until this all over so I can have a nice long cuddle with my baby girl.

Once again I want to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you who prayed for me during my surgery. I really felt your prayers and was so at peace during the entire ordeal. I feel so blessed to have so many people who were loving me and praying for me from all over. You all blessed me immeasurably and I pray that you will all be blessed in return!

glad everything went well. the best advice that I can give is rest. I have had 3 surgeries on my stomach and know it's not very comfortable afterwards, so rest as long as you need and the doctor orders. You have a wonderful husband and awesome family and friends that will take care of you the way you would for them.

Praying for all of you.

Love

Jess

ps. vitamin e oil can help scars appear less noticable.

Been praying for you. Just to let you know you can nurse on percocet, found that out with the thumb injury. Don't know how much nursing you'd want to do anyway with your stomach healing.
